28th May

Illness has seen me struggling recently with keeping on top of Kovacs’ Kolumn and this remains very much the case this week as well so it’s a short one this week. Monyhull Church remain the only team to maintain a 100 per cent winning record with their win over Delph Athletic, (Match Report below). St Andrews’ Netherton lost their 100 per cent record losing 3-2 to Chawn Hill Church in the Division One Cup. Charlemont Star overcame Rowley College 2-1 in Group ‘B’ of the same Cup. Selly Oak Methodist beat Brierley Hill A.O.G 5-1 to keep the pressure on Monyhull Church with Dudley Lions winning 1-0 against Christ Church Coseley to keep them in the hunt more so for 2nd place rather than the top. St Thomas’ Aldridge and Living Hope Church United bagged a point apiece in their 1-1 draw.

Clarendon sealed Runners Up in Division One with their 3-2 win over City Church.

Just the Match Report received off Joshua Briley from Delph Athletic and the Prediction Challenge below. Neither the mind or body are up to much at the moment. Enjoy your football folks.

Delph Athletic 3 – 8 Monyhull Church
‘A game against Monyhull is always a tough one. The way they are so fluid in their formation with some brilliant off the ball movement makes them very difficult to defend against.
The game started as expected, we were sitting quite deep & allowing Monyhull to have the ball & try to break us down.
We were then playing on a counter attack when we won the ball back, which we did to great effect around 10 minutes in when Ed Sutton broke through & put us 1-0 up.
Then on 15 minutes, a lack of discipline meant we were down to 10 men after our holding midfielder swore at himself after a misplaced pass. This changed the whole dynamic of the game & the extra space that Monyhull had on a pretty big pitch meant they ran riot, going in at half-time 5-1 up.
We put another central defender in at half time so that one of the 3 could push out to the Monyhull number 10 who always likes to drop back to collect the ball. This worked to great effect as we managed to pull back 2 goals in quick succession, Dan Ferguson with a lovely strike from just outside the left hand side of the box & Jack follis with a header that crept in just under the bar.
Another lapse of discipline meant we were down to 9 men temporarily due to a Sin Bin. The extra men & the fact our injured players were not allowed to be substituted meant that Monyhull’s┬ámovement just got the better of us, as they ran out & scored another 3 goals.
The game ended 8-3 with both teams wondering what would have been if we hadn’t been reduced to 10 men so early on.
Congratulations to Monyhull who continue their charge for the title & look destined to play in Division 1 next season.
For us, this has been a fairly disappointing season. Inconsistent numbers mean we’ve been making emergency signings most weeks just to get a squad together. We now have 3 games left & have to target 20 points & positive goal difference to build for next season.’
