Kovacs’ Kolumn Catch Up 10th December + Forecast 13th Ddecember

Decided to just put some quick predictions down as an add on to the earlier post this week. In between 12 hour night shifts so need some sleep, hence very quick predictions plus I’m not optimistic that many, if any, games will be on. My windscreen was like solid ice this morning at 7am and found out it had rained and then a quick freeze set in. We lost 3 games last weekend and I think the weather is worse today but let’s hope that the matches get played. My forecasts:

In the Cup we have Maple Leaf vs Zion Athletic and Sheldon vs Zion City, It’s hard to go off the scorelines of these postponed games as Zion Athletic were winning comfortably when their game was postponed, however, Maple Leaf have signed some new players since then so it will probably a totally different team that Zion face today. Having said that, I’m still tipping Zion to win. The other tie was equal at the time of their postponement and I’m not sure what to do when forecasting Zion City nowadays, they really could spring a surprise here but again, I’m going for the Division 1 team..Sheldon to win.

Division One:

Clarendon vs Chawn Hill Church…..I really cannot see anything here but a Clarendon win,

City Church vs W’ton & Perton Churches….City will be looking to add on to their win last week but I think W’ton will bounce back from their defeat and win by 2 goals edit: POSTPONED

Connect Sports vs St Thomas’ Aldridge….A great chance for Connect to get back into the winning habit and I think they will edit: POSTPONED

St Mary’s vs Charlemont Star….edited – POSTPONED (received a message that this game is off due to a frozen pitch as I was doing this)

Division Two:

Saint Michael vs Brierley Hill AOG…..Saint Michael win to secure their mid table position

Sandwell United vs Selly Oak Methodist……9 points between these 2 team and I think that will still be the case at the end of the day, I’m going for a draw edit: POSTPONED

Hawbush vs Dudley Lions…..Dudley had a cracking win last week and I reckon another 3 points will be theirs today

Wednesbury Baptist Church vs Rockmount United….Should Wednesbury win this one then I reckon we can start putting their team colours on the Division 3 trophy but Rockmount will be a tough nut to crack…draw edit: POSTPONED

So that’s all todays forecast, but my main forecast is no games played due to frost!

In Division One Charlemont Star have done themselves a world of good with 2 consecutive wins, those 6 points have moved them well away from the relegation candidates which at the moment looks like possibly being any 3 of the current bottom 4 teams. Sheldon are down near the bottom but do have games in hand so I would expect them to be further up the table after a few more fixtures, but I do believe that their 5-2 defeat at the hands of Clarendon rules them out of any chance of pushing for the title this season. Clarendon on the other hand appear to have become a force to be reckoned with again and look like being St Marys’ only real challengers this season. St Mary’s game was postponed this week but it appears that they went through the motions with a steady win over Chawn Hill Church the previous week. For Chawn, things need to start changing rapidly otherwise it will be straight back down to Division 2 next season. They really needed a win over City Church last Saturday but were beaten 4-2, a result that moves City 3 points clear of St Thomas’ Aldridge whose game was also postponed last Saturday. Can St Thomas’ and City get out the relegation places ? It’s looking like a massive ask for St Thomas’ especially following their 3-5 defeat by W’ton & Perton 2 weeks ago. For W’ton, it was a massive win to put some space between themselves and the bottom Clubs. However, they couldn’t enhance that gap this week losing 5-0 to Zion Athletic. Leon Naylor seems to be banging them in for Zion with 5 in their last 2 games, it would appear that Zion have settled into a decent team now with the old Amblecote lads adding depth to the squad. Connect Sports are really struggling to bag any points lately but looking at the table, if you had offered them that at the start of the season they would have taken it. The last team in Division 1 to mention is Halesowen Zion, unfortunately for them they have had no matches recently due to postponements and with this weeks game against Sheldon also postponed due to Sheldons rearranged Cup game it means no match since their 1-1 draw with Chawn on November 22nd. Like Connect though, I would expect them to be happy with where they are placed at the moment.

Division 2 looks like Wednesbury Baptists to throw away, they had a good 8-0 win over an improving Brierley Hill AOG a couple of weeks back and have a significant gap on the teams behind them. The 2 closest challengers were Rockmount United and Zion City but Zion’s form of late is too inconsistent for me to think they will be Champions come seasons end. A thumping 10-0 win over Maple Leaf needed to be followed up with another win but they could only get 1 point with a 2-2 draw against Hawbush who I would reckon will be quite pleased to have got that. With Sandwell United seemingly cast away in bottom place the battle is really for who is next bottom and there are a few teams in the mix for that so all in all a good point for Hawbush against one of the teams at the top. Zions failings seem to be on the pitch whereas Rockmounts title challenge suffers due to issues away from the pitch. This League comes under the governance of the BCFA and the FA and if any of their rules/instructions are not followed then sanctions happen. I will not divulge what happened suffice to say that Rockmount have suffered due to this with their game versus Dudley Lions having to be postponed and the game awarded to Dudley Lions. (It’s never nice to have to impose these sanctions but things must be correct within this League, both on and off the pitch). Rockmount keep themselves in the hunt though with a 3-1 win over St Michaels. Dudley Lions have shot up the table with 6 points from their last 2 games, the first has already been mentioned but the the 3 points gained last Saturday impressed me massively, a 5-1 win away at Renewal Solihull! Well that’s shot my idea of Renewal being stalking horses for the title, (2 defeats in their last 2 games), but that result must give Dudley a huge boost going forwards. Corinthians Sk, like Dudley, have given themselves a massive boost in the promotion race also getting 6 points from their last 2 games, beating Brierley Hill and Solihull with Ralph Richardson finding the net 6 times out of their 7 goals scored in those 2 fixtures. Saint Michael are sitting nicely in mid-table and with them winning 1 and losing 1 of their last 2 games I believe that this si roughly where they will finish. Brierley Hill AOG appeared to have hit a little bit of form but have suffered back to back defeats and are in among the pack at the lower reaches of the table. The Monyhull Church lads, I am led to believe, always look for my predictions on how they will fare and when will I give them credit for their vastly improved performances this season. Fair play lads, I can no longer look for you to slip up, (you watch them lose their next game now)! Like St Michael, they are middle of the table but boy I bet they are enjoying their season so far. I thought they could have slipped up against Sandwell, but they didn’t, so credit where it’s due. well done so far. (That’s it, that’s all you’re getting, wait to see my forecast for your next game now)! Selly Oak Methodist had a good 2-0 win over Maple Leaf Rovers and are steadily picking up the odd point here and there and are also in the pack at the bottom. For Maple Leaf, 2 defeats in their last 2 games also means that they are in danger of getting dragged down near the bottom of the table, their 10-0 thumping by Zion City being the worst of their last 2 games. Pye Green Towers seem to be well short of their form from last season with their last game being a 2-2 draw with Sandwell. Pye Green are another in the bottom pack but they do have a couple of games in hand, win them and things will appear much better.

I really am pushed for time the rest of this week, (even by my standards), but with only 2 scheduled matches to be played on the 20th, most of you will be playing your last matches of this year this coming Saturday. I will try and find a little time to do my forecasts but I will raise one request to everyone playing this week and maybe for those again that play the week after, you may have seen the Christmas advert that involves the famous Christmas Truce whereby both sets of soldiers lay down their arms and mingled together and played football. This has been highlighted in the press over the past few weeks and professional clubs and match officials have been mingling together and have a photograph taken to remember this event. I would ask that 100 years after the soldiers did it, they all of our clubs do the same and send your pictures into us. We will put them on the web site, possibly under a heading of something like, ‘Christmas Truce, WMCFL Remembers’ or something like that? But to do this we need your pictures, We have 10 games this week and 2 the following week, I would be disappointed if we cannot manage 12 pictures in remembrance of that event. If both teams are at a venue and your game gets postponed, take one anyway?
